Mas d’Azil cave

Mas d’Azil cave

Mas-d'Azil cave, a real geological curiosity !

An enthralling site with a magical atmosphere! The immense caves, modern lighting and unique spirit of the place make Mas-d’Azil cave a fascinating site to explore.

The guided tour of the Cave covers several different themes, such as geology, paleontology and of course prehistory through the proven presence of several different cultures: the Aurignacian, Magdalenian and Azilian. The tour also retraces the history of the site, particularly the siege of the cave during the Wars of Religion. Ossuaries which are still visible on the upper floors have provided valuable information about the animals that inhabited the area duringthe cold periods and the diet of the Magdalenian people: mammoths, woolly rhinos, cave bears, horses, reindeer, bovids, ibex... there is much to discover!

From 24 April to 30 October, during the school holidays, Mas-d'Azil cave and its museum run "Les Petits Aziliens" events for curious children! During these very special afternoons, activity leaders offer entertainment for children from age 7.

All sorts of other activities are also offered throughout the season so you can discover the cave in unique ways!
